Addiction is an important issues facing families across the country.

The Profiles Series is exploring many of the issues that are impacting American families each and every day. One of the issues that is now getting more attention from the mental health community is the disease of addiction.

Nearly one in ten adult Americans suffers from some sort of addiction or chemical dependency. On the Profiles Series TV show, audiences are seeing what researchers are doing to help these people recover and lead productive lives.

Through inpatient and outpatient programs, many people are getting the help they need in one of the thousands of treatment centers that have sprung up around the country. These treatment centers are helping people in both group and individual counseling sessions and are also uncovering many if the underlying mood disorders that can lead people to addiction. The volatile mix of mood disorders and addiction can sometimes prove fatal, so getting them both under control is crucial.

Audiences are being introduced to the dedicated men and women who are working to help addicts build new lives. In treatment programs and transitional housing all across the country, people who were near death because of addiction are now rebuilding damaged relationships, starting new careers, and getting on with a productive life free of the shackles of addiction.

Executive Producer Walter Waiters, senior associate producer Joel Walters, associate producers Ryan Chadderton, Rachel Van Drake, Randi Gardner, Scott Kuntz, and Ralph Gonzalez are working on this report for an upcoming edition of the show.
